LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Based on lectures given during the author's first year as Slade Professor at the University of Oxford, this series surveys past art for the purpose of understanding and evaluating contemporary painting. It shows the development of landscape painting as an independent art, the four ways of seeing landscape as a means of pictorial expression, and discusses, chronologically, the evolution of the various schools. It is graphically descriptive and enlightening for the serious student of this art, and an excellent reference book for all art courses.
