KIRKUS REVIEW

A boy-dog success story with emphasis on the training of a retriever pup. Joey Trent got a dog that looked like a dream but was considered a kennel failure because he was gun-shy. With Bill Lynch, a typical woodsman and trapper, who is really an old dog trainer, he sets out to make a real prize of Wingover, the pup. There are adventures on the way, trickery and shrewd dealing, but honest endeavor comes out on top. The plot is really just some machinery for detailed dog training, of a specialized, very interesting kind. And this detailed retriever information is helped by the boy and dog friendship story. A final chapter of specific instructions on dog training gives this book special value.
