The technicalities of a steel mill, near Chicago, surround the careless deaths of careful workmen and put Steve Caldwell, a new young supervisor, on the hunt for the truth. Safety investigations deadend; Steve bucks big brass to try to prove that the calamities are linked with productivity and research; he wins enemies and causes other killings but winds up a solution of murder in big business.
