ANATOMY OF A BATTLE by Kenneth Macksey

ANATOMY OF A BATTLE

A special interest book for military buffs, this is the story of one real contest during the Battle of Normandy -- real but with certain fictional disguises. The story stop-frames every aspect of the interactions of infantry, tanks and artillery during the skirmish of Vertefeuille Farm. British, American and German battalion activities are held in suspension over each other as if drawn on celluloid for a Disney animation. Anatomy seeks insight into soldiers' combat stresses. (Macksey fought at Normandy.) While the human side of the war is crisply drawn, the emotions right and real, the activities are swamped with military jargon -- for which, thank heaven, a glossary is provided.
