KIRKUS REVIEW

There is no more profound, thorough and prolific writer on the history of Christianity than the emeritus Professor of Missions and Oriental History at Yale University, Dr. Kenneth Scott Latourette. His erudition is massive, and he makes generous amounts of it available in weighty volume after volume. Four volumes ago he started to write on Christianity in a Revolutionary Age, - A History of Christianity in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Now it's the 20th Century Outside Europe and it includes the Americas, The Pacific, Asia and Africa, and the Emerging World Christian Community. It is an amazingly detailed and inclusive chronicle, but it does not lose sight of its central objective. Many students and scholars will have reason to be grateful for the encyclopedic knowledge which Dr. Latourette has made available for this and succeeding generations.
