KINGDOM OF DIAGONALS

In the furious uproar of modern life, the publication of this slim little volume of verse will be less noticed than the ""falling of a sparrow""- yet it rings an authentic note. The poems are chiefly about aspects of nature, gulls, toads, dead wasps, etc. But they are intensely observed and deeply felt, and in their brevity are reminiscent of Japanese and Chinese poetry. A note of disillusion is sounded- and there are often overtones of the lacremae rerum. ... It would be difficult to claim any audience for these- poetry at its best and most virile is overlooked- but one can say a word of respect for this obviously lonely and finegrained individual who has framed his gentle responses in this medium.
