FOUNDING FATHERS: An Inquiry into the Beginnings of Americanism

An analysis, personal, interpretative, rather than strictly historical, of six great Americans, of the ""whys"" of their natures, prominence and contributions to ways of thought, government, civilization and culture. It is the Boswelling of the nature of Americanism and the men who brought it into being:-Jefferson, the Adams, Hancock, Patrick Henry, Washington. They speak for themselves or through their contemporaries, with a resultant sense of personal acquaintance. An arbitrary choice of three from Virginia, three from Massachusetts, but the author's curiosity and speculations about the personalities, contradictions, characteristics make animated, rewarding reading.
