KIRKUS REVIEW

Career book -- story of the years of schooling our Coast Guard cadets go through, boys picked on merit for the Academy at New London, and put through a stiff course, not only in intellectual training, but in physical, emotional and spiritual discipline. The story revolves around the more or less routine experiences of young Steele, intensified by the sometimes bitter rivalry for first place in his class. Emphasis on point of view and morale, rather than adventure.
