THE FOX AND THE CAT: Animal Tales from Grimm

The 11 animal tales in this robust and appealing collection are short, pithy, often funny. The animals exhibit human traits such as arrogance, greed, cunning, and less frequently kindness. Most of the stories are suitable for reading aloud or for storytelling. The tales range from the well-known ""The Wolf and the Seven Young Kids"" to the unfamiliar ""The Fox and the Cat,"" where an arrogant fox boasts that he has 100 tricks. The cat modestly replies that he has but one: ""When the hounds are after me, I can leap into a tree and save myself,"" which he then does. The fox is killed by the dogs. The lively pen drawings, washed in glowing earth tones, complement the text with their humor. An appealing addition to the folktale collection.
