THE WHITE STRANGER

The title poem is a verse play in three acts telling the story of the Aztec god, Quetzalocatl, diety of the Toltecs and the most important figure in South American mythology. MacLeish and D. H. Lawrence have made the American reading public fairly familiar with this figure; but purports to be the first work of imaginative literature set in the mysterious world of Pre-Columbian Central America. The second half of the volume includes his collected poems, with love and death the prevailing themes. Some of the short ones are better than the narrative. Flaccus is a young poet, with a certain live, forceful quality, definitely above par, and easier reading than most.
