A pink piglet with black patches over its eyes stares out at readers. On the opposite page (against a bright pink background, natch) the text reads, “Piglet / I have a snuffly snout and a curly pink tail. / Oink oink!” A foal, ducklings, a calf, a kid, a puppy and a lamb receive similar treatment in this book, which is distinguished by clear, page-filling photos (from stock libraries) of perfectly adorable farm-animal babies. Typography in the text features a couple of playful variations in each; on the piglet page, for instance, “snuffly” appears in irregular, slightly bold type, and “curly” literally curls up from below the rest of the words in the line. One quibble is that the parent animal’s name is never provided, leaving it up to the adult readers to supply that information. Otherwise, pretty darn appealing. (Board book. 1-3)
