This is an unusual collection of devotional readings, but one may expect the unusual and the stimulating of Kirby Page, even if one cannot follow him along all the paths he treads with such intrepid courage. These readings are avowedly designed to interpret ""the significance of creative pioneer groups"". They consist of daily readings of quotations from modern and ancient books, considerable poetry, closing with a prayer. The selections are carefully made and the readings designed to set forth and buttress the faith of religious liberals of the leftist wing. As delineated in these devotional readings, the spiritual family tree of the creative pioneer groups -- represented today by the pacifists and socialists -- may be traced from the Hebrew prophets and Jesus and his followers, through St. Francis of Assist, Luther, George Fox, John Weeley, the modern missionary movement and modern social prophets. No one not a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation to whom the volume is dedicated would accept all the readings as inspirational, but every open-minded Christian would be stirred to thought and forward-looking action by the use of this volume of readings.
