THREE AND A PIGEON

The motherless Willard children are bombed out of house and home and have a glorious few months in a country house loaned them by its absentee owner. Through sheer accident, they meet Emile, a mysterious Belgian refugee lad, who is working for the unpleasant couple at Fetters, a neighboring poultry farm. Good adventure -- good mystery (a solution lying in the black market, which is perhaps more real to English children than to ours) -- a real sense of people -- and the touch of humor that characterises all of her stories.
