HUNTING THE AMERICAN GAME FIELD

There have been so many general books on fishing and specialized books on hunting, that it is rather a surprise to find one like this that covers so wide a range. I should think it would be -- particularly at this price -- an excellent choice for the small book-shop that needs only one stock item in this field- or the small public library that cannot cover all facets of the subject. Its scope is its best sales angle:- sound basic information on guns and gunning, on equipment, its care, on woods lore and formalities of the field- some scattered throughout the text, most of it concentrated into opening and closing chapters. In between, the author covers, not exhaustively but competently, upland game, ducks and geese, small game, deer, moose, bear, sheep-and subdivisions under all of these. It is a rather impersonal book, in the sense that it is factual rather than anecdotal, and general- geographically speaking- not confined to specific areas the author has hunted. The data for reference and the how to do it angles are here:- the game, the cover or locale, the food, how to hunt, the time of year or time of day, the use of dogs, guns and techniques, and so on.
