MEET THE FARMERS

A survey of what is and what is not true about the farmer, a silhouette of his social, economic, productive, operational, political market and distributional problems, that informs on fundamentals necessary to understanding 21% of our population, and a further 23% dependent on it. Here are descriptions of the Farm Bloc, and national organizations, of experts, of existing forms of farming -- family, subsistence, management, city -- of the differences geography, climate, crops, racial and religious groups make in the picture of the ""typical"" farmer, of conservation, new methods and new techniques, of daily life, food, activities and conditions of the various kinds of farmers, that help place them in the national scheme. A sort of Middletown of agriculture that should help clarify existing confusions.
