TURN OF THE WORLD

Lady Decies was Mrs. Harry Lehr, and known to the reading public through Ring Lehr and The Gilded Age. Now in her present guise, as Lady Decies, she turns back the pages to give her memories of American society in the gay '90's, pen sketches of Mrs. Fish, Mrs. Astor, Mrs. Belmont, Mrs. Oelrichs. Anecdotal material about parties of the time, about yachting, the races, the spas, Saratoga, Newport, New York. And -- in sharp contrast -- a final chapter describing the coronation of George the VI and Westminster Abbey from the inside looking on. Good gossipy stuff, with a certain sort of snob appeal. Not the cheap and somewhat unpleasant sensationalism of the other book.
