JUNIOR'S TUNE

I hate the piano,"" says Junior, when his mother asks why he won't practice ""like your sister Ellen."" So Dad buys Junior a trumpet and he takes lessons from a man in a rainbow-colored suit. Jealous Ellen causes Junior to miss the school orchestra tryouts, but Junior listens to their practice through the window and plays for himself in the fields. Later, with the orchestra scheduled to play for a parents' picnic, players and parents hear Junior's lonely playing and break into applause. The director praises Junior and invites him to join the orchestra. McCrady's telling doesn't give much flesh to the pat wish-fulfillment; however, her characteristic tripping pictures give it a lift.
