JOURNEY THROUGH TIME

There's a flavor of The Plutocrat in this novel of an uppercrust family, in moderate circumstances, going to the Riviera and forcing themselves to dance attendance on some oil magnates in search of culture. All this for the sake of (a) a job for the youngest son, whose nerve has been broken by a motor accident; (b) a boot strap to New York's inner circle for the oil magnate's daughter. On the side, said son and daughter plot their own schemes; the lad falls in love with an ultra-modern young French-American, discovers another side of life and grows up over night, when the war breaks. In the process, flashbacks give the story of each parent, and previous adventures in romance in the France of long ago -- and they find that marriage has given them something they had not appreciated. Loosely constructed -- fairly readable tale.
