DASHIEL AND THE NIGHT by Larry Callen

DASHIEL AND THE NIGHT

Put firmly to bed in a scary dark room, Dashiel thinks of different possible ways to make light, and finally sleeps and dreams of catching a thousand fireflies. The next night he goes out to make his dreams come true, and though he catches only one firefly and lets that one go, somehow that one small light transforms the night from a frightening presence to a ""friend."" With pleasant black-and-white drawings that make much of light beams and rays, this is sympathetic and unobjectionable; but the story is too mechanical for the material and too quick a fix to comfort.
