MAKING PUPPETS COME ALIVE: A Method of Learning and Teaching Hand Puppetry

Geared to beginning puppeteers and to adults teaching the art to children, this offers tips on how to make hand puppets nod, clap, wave, faint, sneeze, etc. by means of appropriate finger, wrist and arm movements. There are also sample exercises in improvisation and general suggestions on the construction of felt hand puppets, ""mouth"" puppets (the type often made from old socks, though that method isn't mentioned here) and simple stages. There are none of the construction specifics found in Laura Ross' Hand Puppets (1969) and nothing here to interest the advanced student; rather this is an introductory handbook for teachers and performers who feel more comfortable when armed with printed guidance and demonstration photographs.
