NEMO VISITS THE EMPEROR

Publisher: Whitman

The good luck story of a small Ethiopian boy has a pleasant rhythm to it and a sense of being written from first hand knowledge. Nemo and his Mama Zoa live in a mountain hut near Addis Ababa and while Mama Zoa worries about the need to add to their income, Nemo dreams of visiting the Emperor's palace one day. The opportunity to do both comes through an American family who need a nura for their small daughter Abby. Mama Zoadie in hired and when the Emperor later gives a party for all the foreign children in the district, Nemo leads Abby up the to say hello to Selassie. With the soft humor of the household and the sidelights on Ethiopian folk ways, this is a very natural little story.
