Rags, a half-grown pup, had come out of nowhere on a stormy night and had been taken in. It was a farm where all the animals were expected to work, but Rags only wanted to play. She chased kittens, annoyed the poultry and her days as a farm pet were numbered, even if Danny and Holly did love her. But then, Rags discovered two small kids and became a dedicated goat-sitter. Their antic ways keep her too busy to find trouble on her own and her courage when the kids were threatened by danger wins Dad's acceptance as it will from beginning readers. The print is large and clear and Vee Guthrie's shaggy, pert Rags tending and defending the silly, smiling goats brings irresistible eye-appeal to an engaging easy-reader.
