A debunking book, from which the leading figures in political life from the South emerge with shorn plumage and the stigma of detracting from the possibilities of the South as a forward looking section. The authors divide these men into the spellbinders and sideshows, among which they number Garner, O'Daniel, Dies, Pat Harrison, Huey Long and his successors; and the aristocrats, including Glass, Byrd, Talmadge and Tydings. Only three white hopes emerge, -- Maverick, Black and Pepper. The others he charges with sustaining race hatred, hatred of aliens, lagging labor legislation, waste of material, and selling out to Big Business. Sensational and controversial material.
