BUNNIES

A cluster of bunnies plays the day away.

Dynamic double-page spreads detail a band of multicolored bunnies going about their day. Little readers will witness the critters nibbling carrots, jumping in puddles, stargazing, and other activities but not much else. There's no textual narrative, just a list of things the rabbits do throughout the day. Some of the vocabulary provides a stretch: “huddles,” “romp,” “twitch,” and “snooze.” The illustrations are the book's highlight, eschewing the supersimple flatness often found in board books and embracing a squiggly line approach that's quite refreshing. Notably, one of the bunnies wears glasses, though Anderson unfortunately yields to convention by indicating gender with a pink, bow-wearing bunny. A similar board book featuring a group of chicks, appropriately titled Chicks, is also available.

Cheery and colorful, though not extraordinary.
