Laura Huxley is Aldous' Italian-born wife and he introduces her book, saying that he has appropriated some of her ""recipes"" in his books. It is a kind of mystical-psychological body-building that she offers, to achieve ""harmony within the many sides of....(the) personality"". You must never undervalue the power of emotion to change yourself and others; you must transform it, by remembering, re-experiencing, and chiefly by releasing hostility. The latter should be combined with deep-breathing inhalations of ""luminous air"" and in many cases meditation should be synchronized with physical exercise. There are about 20 odd ""recipes"" which include such recommendations as the purchase of a Tether Ball (work it out and through); Dancing Naked (literally) with Music (""whether you are nineteen or ninety"")- ""dancing only your feelings.... your repressed feelings""; asking yourself lots of questions with ""organismic"" answers; and best of all there's a magic phrase, three little words, to sing, or sing yourself to sleep with, ""TLA-TLA-TLA"".... Tsk- Tsk- Tsk, many people, even stark naked, will read this kind of book with a certain hostility; it is cultist self-help with pointers from the East, Zen and Krishnamurti, to the West, Helen Keller and Erich Fromm. It was apparently written and practised- where also- in the heart of Hollywood.
