AMY AND THE SORREL SUMMER

Great-grandfather Jackson's horse, Desert, had been a spirited sorrel remembered for his feats of endurance and loyalty. Fifth-grader Amy Jackson and her twelve-year-old brother Berne see his likeness in the yearling of a neighbor. The colt is promised to the children if they can raise $100 to buy him. Securing their parents' promise to match their earnings, the children spend their summer seeking gardening and babysitting jobs. There is no real detail about horses or riding in this book which is primarily a simple story of enterprising children with a goal.
