KIRKUS REVIEW

An old English carol about the animals in the stable at Bethlehem the first Christmas Eve is illustrated by Nicholas Sidjakov with a medieval stained glass effect. The book is tiny -- about the size of an adult's hand. Words and music of the carol are included, though there has been no special provision for flexibility in use at the piano. The pictures are in four jubilant colors, heavily outlined in black suggestive of the leading of church windows. The words of the carol are poetic and peaceful.
