KIRKUS REVIEW

An exceptional convergence of two craft traditions. Gilberg and Buchholz have adapted popular Amish quilt designs to needlepoint canvas, and the results are stunning. The Amish bold geometric designs are easily transferred, the intense colors easily matched to Persian wools, and the authors have captured the textural richness by varying the stitches to get raised effects and striking patterning. The illustrations include black-and-white photos of the quilts and exquisitely displayed full-color photos of the finished canvases. In addition to the assortment of precise but often ambitious charts and diagrams, the close-ups of stitches (a few too fuzzy to make out), and the sequenced instructions, the authors provide the amount of yarn and the Persian yarn colors (and numbers) used in the samples. Most designs are intended for standard 14"" square pillow size. Choice.
