STRANGE EXILE

Of Emily, Manila born and bred, and a mouse, who gets a chance to fulfill her American aspirations when she signs up for a job with the U.S. Army there. It is Maggie, her roommate, who introduces her to clothes, lipstick, and the way to handle Major Calvin Trent with whom she falls in love. But Emily shows that she has an idea or two of her own when she goes to the defense of a native friend, faces down the wives of Army brass, and proves that democracy is as democracy does... Girlish, almost down to a boarding school giggle.
