MOTHER GOOSE PARADE: A Talking Book With Song, Sound and Color

This is unquestionably good merchandise. It is a good idea, on all counts. Personally, I was disappointed in the execution. In the first place, the book text brings together in original rhymes and jingles, many of the familiar Mother Goose characters. Then a record in the back of the book puts the words to music, which follows the actual text and pictures. Well and good. Children will love it. But -- from the parents' angle, why not accept the fact that there are traditional melodies, traditional linking of Mother Goose and music, which are equally appealing, and which make a definite contribution to the child background? Perhaps this is captious criticism of a book that is sure to strike a popular note in sales.
