Rattling good story -- with a bit of everything -- and an amazingly human heroine. First rate for summer reading; super rental library appeal. Quiet, but at the same time amusing, entertaining, and winds up with a corking scene of suspense. English Fanny escapes the ultra-refinement of her mother to marry a Scotchman she had picked up in Rio de Janeiro on a cruise. He waits until they are bound for his farm before he breaks the news of his profession. How Fanny meets the situation -- how she wins through the antagonism of his staff -- and how the strain brings its all-too-human let-down makes good reading.
