KIRKUS REVIEW

A companion volume to the author's Customs and Holidays Around the World (1963), this follows the same method of presenting the information. Each of the countries with an independence day to celebrate is entered by geographic location. The story of the country's struggle for independence is perhaps too heavily condensed to be meaningful, but the facts and dates are all at hand. This is particularly helpful in regard to the new African nations. Also included wherever possible are details of flags, anthems and national symbols with brief outlines of the typical ways in which each country is likely to celebrate their day.
