SAUVE QUI PEUT by Lawrence Durrell

SAUVE QUI PEUT

This reprise of further stories about the diplomatic Corps d'Esprit and Stiff Upper Lip take up further unsettling experiences of Durrell's Antrobus, Polk-Mowbray, Dovebasket, et al as they cope with anything from a Kurdish gala circumcision (""the little beardless Youth"" for whom it is given is just down from Oxford) to local barbarisms on the Rialto to a ""Little Affair in Paris"" in which Antrobus helps to dispose of an articulated skeleton. They are very funny, impeccably phrased in what he might call an ""ingratiating, fragrant manner"" and as fresh as any carnation in a Bond Street buttonhole.
