Variations on previously published Galton themes, geared to a masculine audience. Aside from the obvious genito-urinary differences, however, there is little here that is not equally applicable to women: cancer, hypertension, heart trouble, excess stress, mid-life crises, sleeping and eating problems, headache, backache. . . even sports medicine advice. The gender limit does afford the author the luxury of always referring to the sufferer as he, and, of course, the door is left open for a sequel. Anyway the Galton prose slides down easily, is terse and to the point. One cannot fault him either for cheerily suggesting that the guys in the lab are out there digging into old and new ways of treatment and prevention (Vitamin E for this, old-fashioned Pepto-Bismol for that, behavior mod for something else). While the book includes a compendium of disorders and what-to-do-about-them, the trend to be noted in home medicine books is the positive one: promoting health and ways of prevention rather than dealing with disease,
