KIRKUS REVIEW

This belongs to the old muck-raking tradition, but is objective in manner and scientific in method. The author has brought together conclusive evidence to show the mounting dangers of bureaucracy in Washington -- or spreading out from Washington. Everything is tarred with the brush, -- finance, budget, justice, farm, home, and the growth of federal ownership, the evils of civil service are given self perpetuity through the use of the old emergency terror. He shows how propaganda, censorship, relief operations, housing all are subjected to the same bogy. And he suggests, by implication, the possibilities of reform through control of finances and power.
