OVER THE EDGE

By

Publisher: Morrow

Proceeding from the superior to the superlative, this tells of the trial of shy, scholarly Mark Wissner whose wife, Viola, drops from a cliff (""pushover or just a fallen woman?"") and its aftermath of prodding perplexities and guilt- particularly for Alex Rambeau who had once loved Viola Wissner and who had swung the jury against the defendant. In a series of sequences in which Rambeau is driven away from his own wife and toward a personal identification with the crime, a crisis is reached, a subconscious and a conscience salved. In its intensity, its psychopathic provocativeness, this hits a high mark in a high class career.
