FAVORITE TALES OF LONG AGO

This is very good value. There are 20 favorite fairy tales and tales based on fact and legend, vital in retelling, slightly modernized so that one gets -- where possible -- some sense of time and place, -- Bagdad, Cornwall, China, etc. The stories are drawn from Perrault, Grimm Brothers, Andersen, D'Aulnoy, and from the folklore of various nations. With only two or three exceptions, the stories are routine standbyes, Cinderella, The White Cat, The Seven Dwarfs, Hansel and Gretel, etc.-good selection. It is a gay book, with a number of full pages in full color, and decorative borders throughout, by Miss Elliot. She has a story sense and an appreciation of children's fondness for details tying in with the stories. Board.
