GO TO BED! A Book of Bedtime Poems

If wan fancy is the keynote of Russo's bedtime collection (below), Hopkins supplements similar musings about dreams and stars and ""The Land of Nod"" (Stevenson's) with more down-to-earth renderings of familiar situations such as fighting off bedtime (three entries) or night monsters (at least three, though Hopkins' own ""bad rabbit"" who comes ""In the Pitch of the Night"" is a pretty tame nightmare). On the whole, these 20 selections come no closer to poetry than do Russo's choices, though at least there is more variety in tone here, as well as more consistency of level.
