GOOD MORNING TO YOU, VALENTINE by Lee Bennett--Ed. Hopkins

GOOD MORNING TO YOU, VALENTINE

Such luminaries as John Updike, Shel Silverstein and William Shakespeare contribute one sentiment apiece, but this valentine verse more typically echoes the sensibilities of Anonymous--""Roses are red,/ Violets are blue,/ R U 4 me?/ I am for U!"" The printing--red ink on white pages--is appropriately fatuous. Even if we hate to sound hard-hearted, it must be pointed out that the collection of fewer than 25 unevenly fetching ditties is only slightly more substantial than one of those mixed dime-store bags.
