THE HORSE HUNTERS

By

Pub Date: Aug. 1st, 1963

At fourteen, the only friend Jeff Harper knew was Sam Britt; together the boy and man enjoyed the wild life of the mustangers. But, in 1862, when their large herd was stolen, they were forced by circumstance to join the Confederate Army. Through the utter confusion, the tiring struggle, the crucial defeats, the author has created an atmosphere which seems realistic. Jeff's friendship with Jeremy, a young Union soldier, is deftly handled by the author. All in all, a colorful and engaging view of the Civil War, complete with Mosby's men, horse thieves, and traitors, sensitively written by an established author who wrote Rebel Rider (1959, P. 498, J-274) and other historical novels.
