Eminence aside (Salk is Director of Pediatric Psychology at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center) and success aside (his personally promoted on TV What Every Child Would Like His Parents to Know) this is the least of Salk's manuals dealing with blenderized knowns: the initial ambivalence and anxiety you might feel when first pregnant; organizing your home (he disapproves of baby nurses); breast vs. bottle; sibling conditioning; the delivery and ""prepared childbirth"" if possible; handling the baby (pick him up if he cries) and providing stimulation and security and discipling. . . . Middle-of-the-roader-reassurance but as a book, no bigger than a bootee and just about as essential.
