An excellent handbook for anyone past the Brownie 2A stage, who is interested in taking sports pictures. It gives practical, down-to-earth advice, basic rules and anticipates pitfalls. Since the approach differs for various sports, he devotes a chapter to each of the important groups, hunting, fishing; skiing, skating, hiking, mountain climbing, riding; water sports; games. He avoids rules as rules, does and don'ts. He writes in chatty, informal style, but packs in the information. The book is illustrated with 82 splendid photographs, and he discusses each photograph and the technical details (film, light, speed, etc.). He points out how untidy backgrounds might have been avoided, how comparative relations of objects to each other have significance, the taking of sequence pictures to tell a story, and so on. Chapters are included on film and filters, equipment, developing, care of equipment.
