A brief volume of poems by the English soldier-poet whose protest against the barbarism of war brought him both notoriety and acclaim. The years have brought a partial tranquility to the man and his work, have lessened the violence of his crusade for pacifism, although war, and its futility, is still a predominant theme. Other poems deal with the past, with age, with time. Throughout, they are distinguished by a classic simplicity, a happy balance of feeling and intellect, a perfection form which is rare today. Despite the disenchantment, the recognition of man's inhumanity to man, there is a deep serenity and wisdom to many of these lyrics.
