Kick Me in the Traditions was the first one of Leif Panduro's novels to appear here (1959) and these knee high jinks also deal with a youngster, Rufus, an eleven year old runaway, as well as an oldster, septuagenerian Jonsson, a Krupp who built an empire in the U.S. and is now returning to his native Denmark to see it once more--before he dies. The presumably unofficial visit alerts all embassies and forms of foreign intelligence; his entourage (his doctor, his psychiatrist, his physiotherapist, and his sumptuous secretary) does not leave him alone for a minute; he finds Denmark sadly changed and then, with the boy with whom he shares a sentimental compatibility, takes off toward Jutland.... A smorgasborg satire--a little of everything--which was followed by bread and butter bestseller-dom in Scandinavia... here it may seem just amiably inconsequential.
