LEBANON, IMPROBABLE NATION

There is little available in print on Lebanon and it is chiefly specialized in interest. While subtitled A Study in Political Development, this is not as restrictive as indicated but presents the history of Lebanon as an entity. It involves also, necessarily, much of the religious and theological divisiveness within the country where the Muslims remain a minority by a small margin and the Christians have maintained a slight edge in the Chamber. This study, which the general reader will find somewhat static, leads up to the revolution which focused international attention on Lebanon, and the Eisenhower Doctrine in its military application is sharply criticized here for misunderstanding the situation.
