I liked immensely this story of how the small family of an incurable adventurer kept their courage and withstood all attempts on the part of the neighbors to separate them. The father had gone off in his old barnstormer plane, headed for riches in South America -- and news headlines gave him up for lost. But Martha held on to her right, even to the point of adopting a hitchhiker as a cousin, to save the family. The setting is Colorado, not very far from Denver. The story has a supplementary value in its details of how the young people made their rundown farm carry them along.
