These epistles from the Hermie Klitcher family of Euphoria, Illinois to ""Dear Leo"" are composed of dying emanations from such dormant classics as the author's own H*Y*M*A*31 K*A*P*L*A*N or, if you go back that far, Streeter's Dere Mabel. The spelling's spastic and emotive, the cliches are mangled, and the salutations and addresses whimsical or explosively indicative (""Cher, cher ami,"" breathes Flo, Herm's wife -- ""who you never had the pleasure of meeting""). Euphoria hungers for big city illumination on a number of subjects like ""what's the difference between Neurotics and Psycotics"" (""a psychotic,"" answers smartalec Rosten, ""knows that 2 plus 2 equals 7; . . . a neurotic knows that 2 plus 2 equals 4 -- but he just can't stand it"";) or ""what is the Humbold Current?"" (""It is the brother-in-law of the Andreas Fault""). And so it goes -- ad mausoleum.
