THE JADE MONKEY MYSTERY

By

Pub Date: April 14th, 1969

There are elements of his last Mystery of 22 East in this one--a boy alone, storms at sea, and a monkey, not real, but jade, missing from an inestimably valuable bowl which once belonged to a tong clan and was sent to a Mr. Yohido in Japan along with the ashes of his son. Fifteen-year-old Bill Walters, for some reason known only to his father and Mr. Ware, is permitted to travel through the islands as the only passenger on a boat manned by Orientals; obviously he is under the surveillance of one of them, a member of the Mafia-esque Hai Ko, and permitted to find the jade monkey in Hong Kong which will ultimately redirect the bowl to the sect. . . except that Bill's slouch and braver than most. However permeable, the story values are substantial and will keep most readers tong-tied.
