KIRKUS REVIEW

Alfie Oliver that important people wear important hats, and so, discarding his old derby he sets out in search of the perfect hat for Alfie. Sultans, Indians, generals, admirals, hunters, explorers and Presidents capture Alfie's fancy, but in each case the hat is all wrong. It's the derby that wins out and the derby that prevails as Alfie learns that the man makes the hat. Broad humor with a moral is matched by these enormous and vivid illustrations featuring an Alfie who could be kin to Jeff of the famous Mutt and Jeff team.
