SYMBOL ART

In the style of the author's Alphabet Art and Number Art, this is a compendium of symbols from various disciplines, boldly and decoratively rendered in rich red-brown, with a brief page of well-chosen facts and observations on each area of knowledge covered. Subjects included are astrology, astronomy, biology, business, chemistry, magic, math, music, printing, religion, shorthand and weather. Most of the symbols are drawn in an elegant calligraphic hand; each subject is illustrated with a dramatic full-page white-on-brown scratchboard drawing. A beautifully designed book, endowed with such lost amenities as endpapers, frontispiece, generous margins and white space, and ruled borders judiciously placed to set off text and illustrations. Useful, but even more important as a typographic pleasure.
